Ian Kennedy Watch is on...

Moose better pick it up...soon...or not only will have lost any shot of finding meaningful employment next season, but he'll be rather unceremoniously bumped from the rotation in the midst of a pennant race.

1.86 ERA, that makes me drool...

Mussina is in the first year of a two year renewal, right? So we've got him next year unless we can dump him on someone and pay part of his salary (or a lot of his salary).

And here's a question about something I don't understand: why is it that Ian Kennedy can be slotted right into the rotation but Joba is untouchable and treated with kid gloves? Did Joba pitch a lot more in the minors this season and so he's reached his max on innings this year?

Moose has one more year on his deal (and Pettitte has a player option for one more year).

Kennedy is a year older than Joba and pitched at a major college program (USC), so I think they feel like he's a little more ready for a spot in the rotation than Joba, who is better off coming in and just throwing heat for an inning.

And teams typically take it easy with starters that they are transitioning to the bullpen, but no one cares since it happens in the minors. Since the Yanks are doing it with Joba in the majors it has become a much bigger deal.

Has Kennedy pitched too many innings (140+) this season to be available for a start or two?

Apparently not. How much fun is it to see Hughes, Joba and Kennedy all getting a chance to contribute? If they all turn out to be cornerstones for the next decade this season will be a success even if we don't make the playoffs!
