Joe Girardi Will Be New Yankees Manager

It's a done deal. They just need to settle the details and sign on the dotted line. Good? Bad? Would you rather have Torre back?

Okay, I'm back from my Red Sox induced hiatus (I just couldn't bear to think about baseball with that catastrophe occuring). Girardi brought me back! I think this is great. He'll surely manage the bullpen better than Torre, help the young kids to perform and give the veterans a much needed kick in the pants. I'll definitely miss Torre just like I missed Zimmer after he got the shaft from the front office, but at least we're building from within.

I agree on all counts. Maybe Mattingly will be a great manager, but other than the fact that he's beloved, I don't know why I should believe that. Girardi at least has done it. And he'll certainly be more prickly -- there's no way he or anyone else will be able to handle the media and downplay tempests with the ease that Torre did. As for Torre mismanaging the bullpen, that will be a lot easier to avoid when the big names on opening day aren't Pavano, Kei Igawa and Roger Clemens. Show me a mananger who "overtaxes" the bullpen and I'll show you a weak starting rotation.

I don't think Torre overtaxed his bullpen, I think he misused it. Case in point: Tanyon Sturtze and Scott Proctor. He trusted those guys to the point that he called upon them way too often and it definitely affected their performance. Meanwhile other guys who were not in Joe's good graces were left to rot in the pen. My contention is that if you don't trust a guy...get rid of him and find someone that can get it done. Don't just keep throwing Sturtze and Proctor until their arms fall off...

That being said, I'll miss Joe. He was a classy manager and a good guy. I wish him nothing but the best (and Mattingly too).

Anyone else think Torre is going to the Dodgers so he can finish what he started (severing Proctor's right arm)?

If I'm Proctor I demand an immediate trade...

Proctor is probably waking up at night in a cold sweat.
