Another Fan Speaks

Noam wrote: The heavens are crying today because of the A-Rod news. On the bright side, he'll get substantially more money if he breaks the home run record. Because that's what we have to look forward to: a decade of miserable, brand name (mediocre) baseball during which we watch A-Rod's inexorable march towards individual accomplishment.

I kid you not, if Jeter, Posada, River and Pettite all decided to orchestrate a mass exodus and join the Mets or Torre out in LA, I would root for that team.

I have a hard time believing that Yankees will be playing "mediocre" baseball.

Anyhow...

Why don't you add ARod's email address to the list of complaint contacts.

When George Steinbrenner was in control and running things his way, the Yankees were indeed mediocre throughout the 80s and early 90s and most of the 70s. Let's not foget that when George bought the Yankees in 73 he won twice -- 77 and 78 -- while also tarnishing the Yankee name, launching free agency, hiring and firing Billy Martin about a dozen times and having our boorish team labeled the Bronz Zoo. We went 15 years without reaching the World Series and 18 years without a victory and the run in the 90s happened ONLY because George was locked out of team decisions by MLB for breaking the law. His sons are showing every indication of throwing around tons of money, behaving like buffoons and failing to win. That's mediocre in my book. Th Steinbrenners can't even lose w dignity. I don't want to email A-Rod because I have no personal complaints with A-Rod as far as the Yankees. I don't care that he behaved like a prick the last few weeks. He opted out, called the Yankees bluff and is singing the biggest deal in sports history for a remarkable $300 mil. It's every player's dream, money-wise and why shouldn't he get the most he can from whatever team he can? I'm just sorry it's the Yankees.
