I don't like the idea, but I just feel in my bones it will happen. And he will certainly be booed the first time he hits a slump and the intense, distorting focus on his individual performance will get really crazy. It's going to be an exhausting ten years.

I bet you're a "Glass is half empty" kind of guy, aren't you?
The optimist would say, "With the kind of coin they're giving ARod, there's less money for the Carl Pavanos and Kevin Browns of the world."
At least now you can concentrate all of your anger/resentment on one player rather than a half dozen.
I don't know what you're talking about Mike, everyone loves Arod and he's way way way underpaid.
No, dasnootz, I fear now they'll trade Melky and one of the three "untouchable" pitchers (Hughes, Kennedy or -- surely not -- Joba) to get Santana, which to me would be really idiotic. So they spend money on A-Rod and talent on Santana and again we have a $230 mil payroll and just always overspend for the biggest names available and don't win World Series. Hank and Hal -- the H & H brothers -- are indeed making me pessimistic.
