Signing Arod would create a greater chance for Santana. Less holes to fill via trade, and the more flexibility the Yankees have with there prospects to trade, needing to fill only one hole. If Arod signs does that make Cano available for trade ?(I hope not, but it is possible). It also keeps the player that would have gone for Tejada/Caberra/Rolen to fill a hole at 3B. Maybe Cano goes to the twins and Melky goes to the Pirates for Freddy Sanchez and Damon (or Bret Gardner) in Center.
Santana from an expense point of view fills in Pettite's slot right now...
You make a good argument. But I'd rather have NEITHER than pay A-Rod $275 mil and give away our future in the form of Melky and Cano and probably a pitcher to get Santana.
Here I was trying to be provocative and you get all real-world on me. I'm fine with Betemit at third, but apparently that's just me. Betemit and Santana and Joba in the bullpen with four outfielders already in place? I'd feel great about the season.
